BIO

Pianist, composer and arranger, Leandro is an eminent young musician of his generation. Among shows and recordings he works with reputed singers, such as: Ed Motta, Maria Rita, Seu Jorge, Filó Machado, Akua Naru, Honey Larochelle (Macy Gray), Rashid, Wilson Simoninha, Paula Lima, Roberta Sá, Giana Viscardi, Cynthia Utterbach, among others.

He often performs with other musicians: Ed Neumeister (USA), Adonis Rose (USA), Lupa Santiago, Sérgio Galvão, Edu Ribeiro, Vincent Gardner (USA), Hector Costita (ARG), David Richards (USA), Nailor Proveta, Jessé Sadoc, Daniel D’alcântara, Casey Scheurell (USA), Cuca Teixeira, François Lima, Letieres Leite, Bocato, Idriss Boudrioua (FRA), Vitor Alcântara, Jaques Morelenbaum, Vinícius Dorin, Walmir Gil, Luis De La Hoz (CUB), Paulinho Guitarra, Wilson Teixeira, Arismar do Espírito Santo, Thiago do Espírito Santo and Márcio Montarroyos.

In the second half of 2016, Leandro Cabral presents his new album: Alfa, recorded live at the Alfa theatre in São Paulo. Leandro, along with his trio, blends the improvisation from jazz in his own compositions based on less usual rhythms, such as the vassi and the ijexá, both of them original from the percussive universe of Bahia.

He also participated, with his project “Leandro Cabral Grupo celebra Moacir Santos e Letieres Leite”, in the recordings of the french documentary “Echoes Project” (Phonographe Corp.), and received complements from Letieres himself.

On 2015, he released his first album as a leader, called “Sobre Tradição”. The visual register gave birth to the well-known Estúdio Arsis’s web series “Arsis Piano Sessions”. The series already presented episodes devoted to acclaimed keyboard musicians like Nelson Ayres, Mestrinho, Arismar do Espírito Santo, Fábio Torres and Sašo Vollmeier.

Currently, he collaborates in many projects by playing in numerous jazz festivals in Brazil and abroad: Ed Motta, Lupa Santiago Quartet, Deep Funk Session, Lourenço Rebetez, Daniel de Paula e a Irmandade, Jorginho Neto Collective, as well as his trio, his group and piano solo.

Aside from teaching at the Souza Lima Conservatory, Leandro does workshops and gives conferences about jazz, brazilian music and even corporal conscience, since he is also experienced in Hatha Yoga.

Graduated in piano at the Faculdade de Artes Alcântara Machado – FAAM/FMU (2004), he studied piano, saxophone and music theory at Fundação das Artes de São Caetano do Sul during his adolescence. He learned Yoga at CEPEUSP – Universidade de São Paulo (2014).
